Spotting romance scams
- Never send money, gift cards, crypto or airtime to someone you haven't met — no matter the story (hospital bills, customs fees, stranded abroad, investment opportunities).
- Be cautious if someone professes strong feelings very quickly or avoids video calls.
- Be wary of anyone who pushes you to move to WhatsApp or another app straight away.
- Look for the verified badge — but stay careful with everyone.
Protect your privacy
- Don't share your home address, workplace, bank details or BVN.
- Use Settings to hide your last-active time, hide from Discover or pause your profile.
- Your full birth date is never shown to other members.
Meeting in person
- Meet in a busy public place and arrange your own transport.
- Tell a trusted friend or family member where you're going and who you're meeting.
- Stay sober enough to make good decisions and leave whenever you feel uncomfortable.
How to report
Open the member's profile or your conversation and tap Report. Choose a reason and add details or evidence (for example, what they asked for and when). Tap Block to stop all contact immediately. Our team reviews every report and may suspend or remove accounts.
If you are in immediate danger, contact local emergency services (112 in Nigeria). For anything else, contact support.
